Moka Pot or Stovetop Espresso Maker

If you are looking for a bolder cup of coffee than you get from a drip coffee maker, but can't quite appreciate the strength of espresso shots, the Moka Pot could be just the thing for you. The Moka Pot is also known as a stovetop espresso maker. The product of this brewing method can be compared to a cafe' americano (Espresso + Hot Water). Moka Pot

The Moka Pot is made of three major components: the boiler (a) which is the bottom of the pot, a filter (b), which is a funnel shaped insert, and the upper chamber (c) which collects the brewed coffee.

The Moka Pot requires the use of finely ground coffee.

How it works:

After placing the pot on the heat source, the water reaches a boiling temperature. The pressure that builds in the boiler forces water up the funnel and through the coffee grounds. After traveling through the grounds, the mixed water spills in to the upper chamber as espresso.

By making the Moka Pot espresso on the stovetop, you achieve great amounts of pressure from the water and steam which in turn, extracts a fuller flavor from the coffee then regular drip brewing.
