French Press

French Press Pot

The absolute best way to prepare coffee is with the French Press. Coffee-lovers alike would tend to agree with me, but you really should try it and decide for yourself. It's quick, simple, and elegant too!

Although the French Press was originally invented in Italy, its use became so popular in France that it quickly became known as the French Press. The French Press consists of a carafe (Usually made of glass and sometimes plastic) and a plunger which attaches to the filter. The French Press can also be called the "plunger pot."

The French Press produces an extremely full flavored, full bodied cup of coffee. Since the hot water is poured directly over the grounds, this allows you to taste more of the coffee's qualities. You should be prepared to find oils and sediment in your cup. They aren't harmful and they add fullness to the flavor. The French Press is the way to enjoy all the intensity that coffee beans have to offer.

You should enjoy your French Press coffee right away (Within 20 minutes). Since the coffee grounds remain in the pot, the brew can become bitter if you let it sit too long.

For brewing instructions, see the French Press How-to Page.
